Artist's Statement
Art Quilting provides me with a never-ending adventure into personal creativity and pleasure. From my past experience as a nurse, there is a subliminal excitement to touch someone's heart, entertain with whimsy or bring a sense of joy to my audience through works which play off the quirkiness of life and its eccentricities; presenting the world as the colorful, ironic and humorous place I envision.
Originally working for years in watercolor, I recently discovered art quilting and fabric. Both commercial and hand-dyed fabrics provide the foundation for my pieces. It seems a perfectly natural transition to utilize these beautifully colored pieces of cloth which are reminiscent of my paintings and painting technique, and through the application of layering, stitching, trapunto and beading push my watercolor world into a wonderfully tactile three dimensional plane.
